What Is A Virtual Book Club?
A virtual book club is what I consider a working book club. We work our way through the book we are reading.
Past book clubs I've hosted include The Handbook of Forgotten Skills & Can It, Bottle It, Smoke It. These book clubs keep me moving through the winter and non-gardening months. I've learned things such as how to tie knots, how to make lemonade, how to make tamales, and more! Those book clubs were hosted on Facebook, but in 2025, I decided to move my virtual book clubs to my community right here on my site!
Typically, people try to make one thing a month from whatever chapters we are on, but others are in the group as observers only.
Your Questions on Virtual Book Clubs Answered
Q: Where can I get the book?
A: Generally, I try to choose books that are available at libraries; otherwise, Amazon or eBay are great options. Typically, eBay is cheaper.
Q: How much work is involved?
A: This is 100% up to you! If you want to be an observer, that's great, I typically recommend people try one thing a month. This helps keep the effort and cost low.
Q: When do we find out what the book is?
A: I usually try to announce the book in September so people have a few months to find the book.
Q: Are there meetups, meetings, or anything else that is required?
A: There are no formal meetups, but I encourage you to invite a friend or two or invite other local-to-you members to meet up and work through the book.
Q: How do discussions work?
A: Members are welcome to post what they've made from the book. I ask that people include the page(s) from the book along with a photo and anything else the person wants to share.
Q: How do I join?
A: Head over to my community section and find the virtual book club - you will need to create an account on my site, but this is 100% free.
