Wanting To Live A Low-Waste Life?
When I started my sustainability journey, I wasn't even aware I was doing it. Maybe you are like me - you've started moving away from plastic storage containers to glass and buying in bulk to save money and reduce waste.
There is much more to living a low-waste life than I knew existed. Products, stores specifically selling low-waste products - even a grocery store!
When I was sitting down to write my post about sustainability, it was getting very lengthy. Over the next few days, I debated turning it into a series and how that would work.
Read this post to learn about my newest series - all about living sustainably!
Inspiration For A Sustainable Series
While I was at my favorite refillery, I was casually looking around after getting the product I needed. Another customer walked in and made a big fuss about how she lives nearby, hastn' been here in a long time, not knowing how it works, etc. I felt she was so dismissive of the employee - she wasn't interested in learning of all the soap options they offered; she just wanted soap. OK, that is fair enough.
As she was checking out, she said the phrase, "People think it's more expensive to shop here and I just want to say no, you idiot".
Hearing those words struck a chord in me. I already had a note about "Is refilling cheaper, and does it matter?" Her tone was off-putting, and I thought - well, that settles it, I'm making a series about how to get into living more sustainably.
I didn't grow up in a big city, and I really never gave much thought to waste and if/how I should be reducing it. Just because someone doesn't know or isn't aware of refilleries doesn't make them an idiot.
My series on sustainability comes from a place of curiosity, I provide answers to questions that I have had during my journey. I invite conversations in the comments on my posts so you can learn!
What My Sustainability Series Will Cover
When you read my series, I hope you get something out of it. Maybe it will spark something inside of you to visit a refillery, swap some high-waste products for more environmentally friendly products.
