Smoke-Infused Ice Is My New Favorite Obsession

Text: Smoke Infused Ice along with a hand holding smoke infused ice

Why I Love This Smoke-Infused Ice

First and foremost, having smoke-infused ice instantly elevates any drink! In addition to being pretty easy to make, using smoked ice provides a balanced smoke flavor to your drink. As the smoke-infused ice melts, it leaves behind the smokey flavor, so every sip is as good as the last!

Typically I'll use 2-3 smoke-infused ice cubes for a drink, along with regular ice. I recommend starting with my recipe and adjusting the smoke time and wood chip flavor based on your preferences. When you create your drink, try starting with 1 or 2 cubes, and adjusting as needed.

Tips For Smoke-Infused Ice

This was my first time making smoke-infused ice, and I have some tips that I wish I had known beforehand.

  • Start with frozen ice cubes for a more smokey flavor

  • If you can plan your drink ahead of time, think about which flavor of wood chip you might want to use - for example - if I were making my spiced cherry mocktail, I would try to use cherry wood chips to develop the cherry flavor in my mocktail

  • I like to pair smoke-infused ice with a spritz of oil before drinking my mocktail - the oil awakens the nose and helps bring out the smoke flavor. Depending on your cocktail, you can simply express a fruit peel (orange, lemon, etc.) over the top of your drink, or if you happen to have essential oils on hand, 1 spritz on top of the drink will do the trick!

  • For a visual treat, add smoke to your drink by using a cocktail smoker - this will take your cocktail up a level as you are including visual, smell, and taste in 1 cocktail experience.
