Useful In A Pinch - Easy Pasta Sauce

Text: Easy pasta sauce and a photo of rich red pasta sauce

Why I Love This Easy Pasta Sauce

I love this recipe because it's easy to make, and is perfect when I don't have pasta sauce! I was able to easily make this sauce while my food was cooked. This easy pasta sauce pairs well with regular pasta, spaghetti squash, zoodles, pizza, or appetizers. Use this pasta sauce for 1 or feed a crowd by doubling or tripling the recipe.

I created this recipe when I made pasta but realized I didn't have any pasta sauce. When I looked in the pantry I saw I had tomato paste and I decided to try to make my own pasta sauce. Using miso paste in this recipe adds a depth of flavor and salt. Miso paste is very salty, so you only need a little to taste it in your recipes. I substitute sale for miso in almost all my recipes (even baking!). Miso paste contains less sodium than salt does, so if you are watching your sodium intake, I'd recommend using miso paste to replace salt when cooking or baking.

If you are like me and realize you don't have pasta sauce, give this recipe a try. Use this with your favorite meals or as a dip for pizza or appetizers. Customize this sauce by adding in your choice of herbs, and parmesan cheese, or try adding in red pepper flakes if you'd like some heat!

You can easily replace the za'atar with an Italian seasoning blend if you don't have za'atar. I highly recommend buying za'atar if you can as it has many flavor profiles that cannot be matched with an Italian seasoning blend.

Have you ever not had pasta sauce? What did you use instead of pasta sauce?
